Strategic Plan to Guide Next Five Years

If One Arlington Street symbolizes the College’s transition, then Moving the College Forward is the blueprint for realizing its potential as well as fulfilling the College’s mission.

Moving the College Forward is the product of a yearlong collaboration among the President, Administrative Council, Board of Trustees, and the Fisher community in shaping goals and strategies for 2006-2011.

A joint statement by Dr. Nicholas W. Bankson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Charles C. Perkins, President of the College, said, “Fisher College has, for more than a century, successfully prepared its students for the challenges of the world of work. Now, as the College reflects on those experiences and their application in the 21st century, we are proud to point to Moving the College Forward as our plan to reposition Fisher College. We thank the Steering Committee for its diligence at crafting a document that is definitive and articulate, and we are excited about what the future will bring over the next five years.”

The five strategic goals capture a college faithful to its mission and confident as its takes hold of its future:

Goal 1: Transition the College to become a baccalaureate institution while recognizing the need to maintain associate degree and certificate programs.

Goal 2: Ensure financial growth and investment in the College to fulfill its mission.

Goal 3: Develop an institutional image of the College both internally and externally that reflects the College’s transition to a baccalaureate college that also offers associate degree and certificate programs.

Goal 4: Enrich the learning environment of the College. Goal 5: Develop a systemic process to continually assess institutional effectiveness.

Like the sunbursts that adorn the doors of One Arlington Street, Moving the College Forward reflects a new day at Fisher College.

Community Shows Allegiance to College

Annual fund on record pace; new and lapsed donors engaged

Changing Lives: Fisher College’s 2006-2007 Annual Fund Campaign is on pace to become

the most successful annual campaign in the College’s history. Alumni and friends have contributed $52,905 in gifts and pledges, putting the Campaign at 88% of its $60,000 goal.

“The enthusiastic response and fast pace of giving has been exciting,” said Richard Levitt, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “Alumni and friends are affirming through the Annual Fund Campaign that Fisher College changes lives.”

One-third of total gifts have come from first-time donors or those who have come back to the Annual Fund after at least a one-year lapse. All donors will be recognized in the College’s end-of-year report. Gifts made before June 30, 2007, will be applied to the Campaign.

The Board of Trustees has pledged or contributed $30,050, exceeding its Campaign goal by more than 50%.“The Board is thrilled with the level of support shown by alumni in this year’s Annual Fund, and we hope that our giving inspires others,” said Dr. Nicholas W.

Bankson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Gifts may be made online at www.fisher.edu/Web/Alumni/annual_fund.html or sent to:

Office of Institutional Advancement Fisher College 118 Beacon Street Boston, MA 02116

Recognizing the often extreme need of some Fisher students – many of whom hold jobs, support families, and attend school – the College established the Student Book Fund, an endowed fund to assist with the cost of textbooks. The Fund currently has $2,500 towards a first-year goal of $10,000. Disbursements will likely begin in 2007 even as the College builds the Fund.

New law permits tax-free IRA rollover gifts to Fisher

For alumni and friends turning 701/2 the new Pension Protection Act offers significant tax advantages for donors. Previously, IRA withdrawals would be reported as income and donors would take a deduction for their charitable gifts. Now, donors may transfer up to $100,000 to Fisher College or any charity directly from their traditional, rollover, or Roth IRA without the income reporting requirement. As with all planned giving options, speak with your accountant or other advisor. The tax break is scheduled to expire at the end of the year.

Corporations and foundations demonstrate belief in College’s mission

Fisher College has always served as a point of access, and our corporate and philanthropic partners further that mission. In June 2006, the Henry H. Crapo Charitable Foundation of New Bedford, Massachusetts, awarded Fisher College $7,750 to upgrade the New Bedford campus laboratory with new equipment to ensure that Fisher College graduates entering the health care field continue to positively impact the lives of patients and the community. In addition, Boston Private Bank & Trust Company made a contribution to assist with programming at the Women's Resource Center while several Fisher students (photos to the right) were the beneficiaries of corporate and foundation scholarship awards.

A campus ceremony was held to recognize the Capital Crossing Bank Scholars.
